Fargo

James Frederick Halvorson, 62, Fargo, passed away on December 21, 2024 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo. He was born on August 4, 1962 in Rugby to Morris and Myrtle (Larson) Halvorson.

Jim graduated from Rugby High School in 1980, the Brown Institute of Technology, Minneapolis in 1983, and North Dakota State University earning a degree in mechanical engineering in 1999.

In his younger years he worked as a house painter with his father and his brother, David. Later on he worked as a very skilled welder and finally as an engineer for Bobcat, Inc. in Milnor, North Dakota. He also worked as a “roughneck” during the two oil booms in North Dakota during the 1980’s and 2010’s.

Jim was known as a very hard worker, who took pride in his work. He also had the greatest sense of humor and wit known to modern man.

With all of these great attributes, he was loved deeply by his friends, siblings, nephews, nieces, along with his son, Jack.

Jim loved to go downhill skiing in Montana and enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years.

Though he could tackle any mechanical problem or difficult college course work, he could not conquer his addictions. He will be remembered as a smart, witty, clever man with a heart the size of the earth.

He is survived by his brother, Loren, Rugby, David, Tioga, Beverly and Joline, Minneapolis and his son, Jack Morris, who he named after his dad. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 30th at the Niewoehner Funeral Home in Rugby on 1:00 P.M. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9:00 A.M. www.niewoehnerfh.com, 701-776-6222
