Amy Barbara Stutrud was born to Otto and Inga (Westgard) Stutrud on June 25, 1931, at the family farm north of Tunbridge, ND. She began her education in the local one-room school and graduated from Rugby High School. She continued her education at Minot State College, earning a teaching degree. Amy taught elementary school in Upham, ND, for three years.
Amy married the love of her life, Virgil Anderson, on April 6, 1952, and they shared 68 years of marriage. After Virgil returned from his overseas assignment, Amy and Virgil moved to the Livermore California Air Force base. Amy taught elementary school in Livermore while Virgil completed his tour of duty. After the couple returned to North Dakota, they purchased a farm four miles east of Leeds, where they raised their three children and later enjoyed spending time with their six grandchildren.
Amy was active in her church. She taught Sunday School and participated in the ladies’ circle and serving groups. Amy’s love of quilting started young. She gave her quilts to friends and family throughout her years. She was also known for her love of gardening and cats. She raised beautiful flowers and bountiful crops of vegetables, which she enjoyed including in her cooking. Amy’s hard work contributed to the success of the farm where she loved to live.
Amy is survived by her children, Mark Anderson of Prior Lake, MN; Barbara (Larry) Swingen of Fargo, ND; and Duane (Lisa) Anderson of Leeds, ND; her six grandchildren, Dr. Kristin (Justin) Anderson Taylor, Eric Anderson, Laura (George) Anderson, Jason (Morgan) Swingen, Michael (Kayla) Anderson, and Hannah Anderson; and her seven great grandchildren, Azariah Taylor, Selena Taylor, and Samie Young-Taylor (Justin Taylor and Kristin Anderson Taylor), Henry and Libby Anderson (Laura and George Anderson), and Seth and Isaiah Anderson (Michael and Kayla Anderson). She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, and her four brothers, Lynn, Walter, Oliver, and Theodore Stutrud.
