Agnes Lucy, 96, Harvey, ND died Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey, ND.
Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, December 18 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 17, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. followed by a rosary prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Harvey. Burial will be in the St. James Catholic Cemetery of Powers Lake at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
Agnes was born September 18, 1928 to Joseph and Katherine (Miller) Schaan on the family farm south of Rugby, North Dakota. She grew up in rural Balta attending the country schools, Basil School #3 and #1, graduating from Balta High School in 1945. She received her teaching certificate and taught at the Rose School and in Orrin. Attending St. Francis School of Nursing in Minot she earned her nursing license in 1954. Agnes married Daniel Lucy on December 15, 1954, in Powers Lake, ND. They ranched, farmed and raised their eight children near Powers Lake. As a Registered Nurse she worked in Tioga, Kenmare, and Stanley. Dan died on October 28, 1990. In 2001 Agnes moved from the farm to reside in Harvey, ND. She lived in her own home until moving into the nursing home in November 2024.
Growing up, Agnes actively participated in parish life at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Balta. She was most recently a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Harvey and a former member of St. James Catholic Church of Powers Lake. Agnes was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Powers Lake and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Eagles Auxiliary of Harvey. She served as clerk in Lucy Township, Burke County for many years.
Participating in daily Mass, Adoration and living her Catholic faith were very important to Agnes. Spending time with family was one of her favorite things. Being in the presence of children always brought her great joy. Her hobbies included playing cards, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, embroidering, baking and especially feeding people.
Agnes is survived by her children, Joseph (Tami) Lucy, Lake Havasu City, AZ, Patrick (Melissa) Lucy of Miltona, MN, Maria (Ron) Fischer of Grand Forks, ND, Elizabeth (Steve) Leier of Harvey, ND, Paul (Bonnie) Lucy of Minot, ND, Raymond (Teresa) Lucy of Logandale, NV, Gerald (Jessica) Lucy of Minot, Sean (Lesly) Lucy of Big Sky, MT; 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings, Jacob, Joseph, William, Frank, Peter, Daniel, Paul, Albert, Sr. Mary Magdalen, Sr. Mary Anne, Celistina and Theresa.
