Calvin Carl Helm, 82, of Rugby and formerly of Anamoose, died with his family by his side on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Trinity Hospital in Minot, North Dakota. He was born on April 25, 1942, in Harvey, North Dakota, to John and Ruth E. (Schielke) Helm.

Calvin grew up in Anamoose, where he was educated and graduated from Anamoose High School. He continued his education at NDSU, where he was proud to be a part of the TKE Fraternity. He completed his education at BJC, earning a Business Degree. On April 11, 1966, he was united in marriage to Mardelle Marie Michels in Beach, North Dakota. They made their home, raised their family and farmed in the Lincoln Valley area. In 1984, they moved to Anamoose and retired from farming in the late 1980’s. The couple moved to Rugby to the Haaland Manor in December of 2022. Calvin and Mardelle were blessed to celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary this year.

Calvin was a member of the St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby, the Eagles Club, The Anamoose Wildlife Club, the North Dakota Wildlife Club, where he served as President. He loved fishing, hunting and carving as well as feeding the area birds. He loved and was proud of his family, who blessed his life and will miss him dearly.

Calvin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mardelle; children, Steven Helm of Springfield, South Dakota, Carla Helm of Minot and Roanne (Wade) Thingvold of Willow City; grandchildren, Cody (Kendra) Marquart of Shelby, Montana, Casey (Teresa) Marquart of Surrey, Toni Jo Roerick of Minot and Hayden Thingvold of Grand Forks; 4 great grandchildren, Fin Marquart, Enzley Roerick, Otto Marquart and Clayton Marquart; siblings, Jerry (Barb) Helm, Bonnie Helm, Merry (Jon) Helm and Farrel (LeAnn) Helm; in-laws, Judy Kremers and Darrell (Clarice) Michels; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Darlene Wilson and brother-in-law, Leon Kremers.

The family prefers donations/memorials made in Calvin’s memory/honor to the Little Flower Catholic School.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 7, at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby, with burial in the church cemetery. Father Franklin Miller, Celebrant.
