Age 91 of Balsam Lake, WI, formerly of Stillwater, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024.

Preceded in death by husband, Chuck; parents, Herbert and Mabel Harmel; brothers, Richard and Roland Harmel; sisters, Julie Norby and Ruth Schumacher.

Survived by children, Jay (Renee) Swanson, Jim Swanson, and Lori Swanson; grandchildren, Beth (Ben) Butler, Kristen Swanson, and Scott Swanson; great-grandsons, Noah and Augie Butler; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Helen grew up on her parents’ farm near Rugby, ND, and graduated from Rugby High School. After completing nurse training, she moved to the Twin Cities, where she met and married Chuck Swanson. They soon moved to Stillwater, where they raised their three children. Helen worked as an R.N. at Lakeview Hospital for many years, and was involved in many church activities. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends during the summer on Balsam Lake, and in retirement she, and Chuck wintered in Mesa, AZ, where they loved hosting friends and family, as well as making new friends.

Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, September 28, 2024, 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, 507 West Main Street, Balsam Lake, WI with visitation one hour prior to the Mass.

Memorials are preferred to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church or the American Heart Association.
