David Alan Thompson, the son of Melvin and Esther (Braaten) Thompson was born on April 27, 1955, at the Rolette Community Hospital in Rolette, North Dakota. He died at the age of 69 years on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

David was the youngest of four children and the only boy, so he was always the favorite brother. He grew up on the family farm in Juniata Township in Pierce County. He was baptized and confirmed at Ox Creek Lutheran Church and was proud to be the last person to receive communion there before the church closed. David attended all of his school years at Wolford public school, graduating in the class of 1973. While in school, he videotaped the basketball games and was fortunate that both his parents drove the school bus. When growing up, he spent a lot of time trapping and enjoyed hunting game birds and deer, which he continued throughout his life. After high school, he continued his education at Lake Region in Devils Lake and the State School of Science in Wahpeton. With his education as a sheet metal worker, he worked for R & O Contractors, Johnson Plumbing, Klemetsrud Plumbing & Heating and Frostad Plumbing & Heating. He was a firm believer of Harley Davidson motorcycles, placed in several motorcycle shows and attended many rally’s, including the Abate Rally at Menoken Grove and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

David is survived by his sisters, Marlene Nelson of West Fargo and Ila LaChapelle of Portland; brother-in-law, Al Fletschock of Devils Lake; nieces and nephew, Amber Fletschock, Lindsey (Jamie) Banister, Mackenzie Fletschock, Scott LaChapelle and Andrea Deschamp; great nieces, Hannah, Ella and Lily Banister; other relatives, friends and his dog, Chopper. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ann Fletschock; brothers-in-law, Greg Nelson and Ray LaChapelle; a niece, Sarah Deschamp; his parents, Melvin and Esther Thompson; grandparents, Inga and Olof Thompson and Mabel and Hans Braaten.
