Delores Jane Johnson, 97 of Rugby, ND, formerly of Rolette, ND died peacefully on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.

The oldest of 14 children, Delores was born on Monday, August 9, 1926 to Edwin and Olga (Sveum) Thingvold. She attended school in Barton and graduated from Rolette High School. She attended two summer terms at the Minot State Teacher’s College, then taught school in South Valley Township for three years.

Delores married Albin J. Johnson on August 7, 1949 in a ceremony in the parsonage of the Barton Free Lutheran Church, then moved to Rolette, ND where they raised their 4 children: Mark, Terry, Sheila and Gloria. She began working at the Rolette Hospital as a nurse’s aide and later as a cook, retiring after 20 years.

When Albin retired, they moved to the Haaland Manor in Rugby in September of 1998. Albin died November 9, 2004. Delores moved to an apartment at Heartland Homes, then later to the Haaland Home and lastly to the Heart of America Care Center.

Delores enjoyed doing jigsaw and word find puzzles, going to the casino, playing bingo and was an avid pinochle player. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Rolette; a member of Valle Lutheran Church and it’s Ladies Aide in Rolette and also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Delores is survived by her children: Mark (Phyllis) Johnson of Rugby, ND; Sheila Jacobson of Devils Lake, ND; Gloria Belisle (Brad Fecho) of Willow City, ND and daughter-in-law Donna Johnson of Rolette, ND; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters: Mary Juergens, Carol Torgerson and Norma Klebe; brothers: Alton, Gordon And Dennis Thingvold.

Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Albin; son Terry, great-grandson Lucas Johnson sons-in-law Wayne Jacobson and Glenn Belisle; sisters: Ann Dissette, Dorothy Blessum and Gladys Thingvold; brothers: Edward, James, Donald and Rudolph Thingvold and her parents.

The funeral will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024 at 11:00 am in Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette, ND, Rev. Nicholas Rohde officiating. Burial will be in the Rolette Cemetery in the spring.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10th from 3-5 P.M. at Niewoehner Funeral Home in Rugby, ND and one hour prior to the service at Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette.

Casket Bearers: Brian Johnson, Craig Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Michael Jacobson, Corey Belisle and Mark Erickson. Honorary casket bearers are all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
