Evangeline “Vangie” Marie Bakken, 89, Rugby died on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Trinity Hospital in Minot. She was born on July 29, 1934 in Rugby to Peter and Hannah Schwab Wangler. She grew up in Rugby and attended Little Flower School. Vangie married Paul Oleander Bakken on June 6, 1966 in Fillmore. They lived on a farm in Iowa Township – Benson County. Mr. Bakken died on March 24, 1994. She worked as a housekeeper at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby and at the B & M Laundry for several years.
She was a member of the Pleasant Lake Wildlife Club and Bethany Lutheran Church until it closed in 2019. Evangeline enjoyed baking, doing jig-saw puzzles, and embroidery.
She is survived by her sisters, Bernadine Meckle – Rugby, Delores Willison – Washington; Beverly Wangler – Jamestown, a sister-in-law Lucia Wangler – Eagan, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews. Vangie was preceded in death by her husband, her son, Dennis on July 15, 2018, her brothers Peter and Fred and her parents.
