David S. Tuchscherer, 79, of Baxter, passed away with family by his side on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at St. Cloud Hospital.

Dave was born December 26, 1943, in Rugby, North Dakota. While attending Rugby High School, Dave spent his time competing as a four-sport athlete and working on the farm with his dad. He went on to continue his education at North Dakota State University and Dickinson State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology education and was a proud member of the TKE fraternity. Later, he earned two graduate degrees in Media from St. Cloud State University. Dave was a life-long learner and teacher who enjoyed an extensive career in education for over 35 years; teaching biology, math, was a Media Specialist and met his wife of 50 years, Carol, who was an English teacher at Brainerd High School.

Dave was a loyal and generous man who appreciated people and spending time sharing stories with his friends and family. He was genuine and always spoke his mind. He had a positive attitude and could make a connection with anyone; always willing to help when needed. It was difficult for him to find enough time in the day to enjoy all of his hobbies. Dave and Carol were very diligent about not missing one sporting event of their three sons. Dave also enjoyed coaching the boys in many sports. He was passionate about his family genealogy, German ancestry, and growing up in North Dakota. Dave had a love for the outdoors and was a dedicated hunter, fisherman, and bird enthusiast. He enjoyed photography, had a love for music and singing, traveling with family, and visiting with friends; especially morning coffee. He was an avid collector of antiques, tools, clocks, stamps, coins, prints, classic cars, and was continuously on the go in search of the next best deal. He had many great achievements in his life, but he always said his proudest accomplishment was his family.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Gertrude (Wilder) Tuchscherer. He is survived by his loving wife Carol (Jacobsen) Tuchscherer; sons Mike (Erika), Mark (Nicole), and Paul; brother, Jerry (Susan); sister, Ruth (Ron); brother-in-law, Tom; and many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his 5 grandchildren; Jacob, Anna, John, Jack, and Lucas.

A Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 30, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd, MN. Family and friends are welcome to gather Sunday, October 29 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Nelson – Doran Funeral Home and one hour prior to service at the church on Monday. A private interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa, MN.
