Casper Christ Volk, the son of Walter and Elizabeth (Merck) Volk was born on May 18, 1933, in Rugby. He died at the age of 90 years on October 19, 2023, in his home in Rugby.

Casper grew up on the family farm south of Rugby and attended Little Flower School. He was once married to Mavis Saude and they raised eight children.

Casper worked as a blade operator for Pierce County for two years and then Street Superintendent for the City of Rugby for 31 years. These jobs instilled a love for owning and operating heavy equipment. Casper and Mavis purchased Rugby Sanitation Service in the fall of 1973 and Casper continued to operate the business with his sons, David and Ron until December 31, 2018.

Casper spent 25 years wintering in Yuma AZ, where he met many new friends. He was packing his bag to travel south for the winter at the time of his death. He was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and a charter member of the Rugby Eagles.

Casper is survived by his children, Theone (Wayne) Stevenson, David Volk, Dale Volk, Eugene (Kristi) Volk, Ron Volk (Hallie), Linda (Doug) Schneider, Marilyn (Mark) Yoder, all of Rugby and Bruce Volk of Maple Grove, MN; grandchildren, Eric Stevenson (Alison) of Williston, Troy (Deanna) Volk of Rugby, Christopher (Sadie) Volk of Minot, Keighly Johnson (Jerry) of Bismarck, Kendra (Chad) Miller of Dickinson, Sara (Tyler) Halvorson of Rugby, Kelsea (Drew) Nichols of Stanley, Allison (Kyle) Lovcik of New Town, Jessica (Jesse) Fritz of Rugby, Danny (Tallie) Schneider of Rugby, Dustin (Nichole) Yoder of Minot, Nathan Yoder of Rugby, Austin (Anakate) Yoder of Nashville, TN; 31 great grandchildren; sisters, Agnes Kelly of Dickinson, Theresa Paul of Rugby, Janice Schmidt of San Jacinto, CA; brothers, Virgil (Ruth) Volk of Portland, OR and LeRoy (Sandy) Volk of Hemet, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jared Volk, daughters-in-law, Ardyce Volk and Cindy Volk; his brothers, Edward Volk, Herman Volk, Lawrence Volk and Jerome Volk and sisters, Elizabeth Thompson, Marie Hertz and Regina Volk.

Memorials are preferred to Little Flower Cemetery or Little Flower Catholic School in Rugby.

Mass of Christian burial was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24th at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial in the church cemetery. Father Franklin Miller, Celebrant
