Rugby
Lois Darlene Tuff, 92, of Rugby, North Dakota died Wednesday March 29, 2023 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey, North Dakota. Lois was born July 20, 1930, to Alexander and Litta (Lydia) (Larson) Mears in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Rugby, North Dakota.
Lois was raised on the family farm near Pleasant Lake, North Dakota along with 2 sisters and 2 brothers. As a young girl, the family moved to Knox where Lois attended school. Lois continued to live in Knox until her marriage to Les Tuff on December 7, 1948. The couple made their home northwest of Rugby where Les farmed the Tuff land. Lois was a homemaker working on the farm until Les passed away January 4, 1996. After his death Lois moved to her home in Rugby. Due to declining health Lois moved to the Haaland Estates in Rugby and later to the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey where she resided until the time of her death.
Lois always had the coffee pot on and ready for company. She greatly enjoyed friends and family who would stop by and sit at her table. Lois enjoyed her many drives with friends Betty and Howard Larson. Especially the trips to the casino and after a stop at Dale’s Truck Stop for lunch and coffee. But that wasn’t all, the day was completed with a stop at the Coffee Cottage in Rugby for banana cream pie, and you guessed it, more coffee. A good friend, Gabe Scheet took her on many drives to her farm so Lois could watch the harvesting of the crops. Lois will be remembered for her sweets and bottomless coffee pot.
Lois is a member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby.
Those who shared in her life are several nieces, nephews and friends; the caregivers at the Haaland Estates; and St. Aloisius Nursing Home. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Les, her parents; sisters Loris, Lucille; brothers Raymond and Terris; special friend, Bill Duchscher.
A special thank you to the caregivers at the Haaland Estates in Rugby and to the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey. The care she received was exceptional and Lois was truly blessed to have you all in her life.
