Interment will be at a future date at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery. In lieu of gifts or flowers memorials are preferred and will be donated in Arlyne’s name to the First Lutheran Church in Rugby, N.D. or Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church, Prior Lake, Minn.

Arlyne was born on May 14, 1934 in Flasher, N.D. to William and Myrtle Breuer. She graduated from Mandan High School in 1952 and from Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1955. Arlyne married her high school sweetheart, James Rothschiller on September 19, 1955. They made their home in Riverside, California, where Arlyne joined a physician in private practice before joining the staff at the University of Southern California Student Health Center in Riverside. In 1969, Arlyne, Jim and their sons, James and David returned to N.D., residing in Rugby. Arlyne was employed by the Johnson Clinic as the Director of Nursing Service for 17 years. She continued her love of nursing and teaching as a long-term substitute teacher for the Health Career class at Rugby High School and later as an instructor for the LPN nursing program at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby. Arlyne truly enjoyed her calling as a nurse and took pride in white uniforms and the care her and her fellow nurses provided. Arlyne “retired” in 1996 and joined Jim in their retirement business, Heritage Restoration & Antiques by JR.

Arlyne enjoyed her home and loved entertaining family and friends. She often said the fall hunting season was her favorite time of the year when her sons, grandchildren and their many friends came home to hunt. Other passions and loves included trips to the Twin Cities to watch her grandchildren participate in their activities, time at their Metigoshe cabin (and the beautiful sunsets), trips to Norway, Germany and Mexico and 13 years of volunteering at the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation. Arlyne loved her birds, mentoring youth, gardening, flowers and was passionate about her table settings!

Arlyne loved her faith and found comfort as an active member of First Lutheran Church serving on church council, pastoral call committees, WELCA, teaching Sunday School and singing in choir with her two sons. She also served as a member of the Rugby Chamber of Commerce, the Heart of America HMO Board of Directors, and a long-time volunteer in the Good Samaritan Hospital Gift Shop.

In 2017, Arlyne and Jim moved to McKenna Crossing in Prior Lake, Minn., to be closer to their family. Arlyne found enjoyment maintaining flowers for the property, growing vegetables in their raised garden and volunteering at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church.

Arlyne is preceded in death by her twin daughters, Deborah Raye & Denise Faye; parents; mother & father-in-law, and several wonderful brothers & sisters-in-law. She is survived by husband, Jim; sons, Jim (Sandy), Victoria, Minn., & Dave (Jody), Eagan Minn; grandchildren, Derek (Megan) Rothschiller, Lauren (Tony) Reed, Jordan (Victoria) Rothschiller, Lindsay (Logan) Rudstrom, and Brock (Kirsten) Rothschiller; great granddaughters, Scout & Blair Rothschiller and great grandson, Ryder Reed; sister, Marion Helbling; brother, Ed (Dalas) Breuer; sister-in-law, Rita White; along with many nieces & nephews.
