William Haverstraw

William Pius Haverstraw, 85, died in the late hours of February 23, 2023 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby. Mr. Haverstraw was born in Rugby to Roy and Margaret (Hoffart) Haverstraw on June 17, 1937. He was raised on the family farm in Reno Valley Township – Pierce County and graduated from Rugby High School in 1955. Willy attended the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton for a time studying electronics and television repair. He returned to the farm until he moved to Minot in 1961 and was employed at Rueb’s Camera for a few years. Mr. Haverstraw returned to Rugby and took care of his mother at home until her death in 2010. In August, 2021 he became a resident of the Harold S. Haaland Home in Rugby. Willy enjoyed shooting targets with a variety of firearms and playing cards with his family and friends.

Mr. Haverstraw is survived by his siblings: Joyce Bakken – Zephyrhills, Florida; Joan Warga – Hancock, Wisconsin, Donna Rygg, Ronald and Wayne Haverstraw all of Rugby. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Raymond and Danny, and his twin sister, Dorothy Pitcher.

He will be buried next to his parents at Persilla Watts Cemetery in Rugby at a service held there in the spring or summer. Please visit www.niewoehnerfh.com for service announcements.
