Rugby

Gladys Victoria Grant, the daughter of Alfred and Cecelia (Keplin) Allard was born on December 19, 1932 in Belcourt, North Dakota. She died peacefully with her son by her side at the age of 90 years on Friday, January 20, 2023 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Gladys was raised in Belcourt and graduated from Belcourt High School. She met the love of her life in high school and she and Sylvester Grant were united in marriage on September 1, 1954. They were blessed with two boys, Gary and Mark. They briefly lived in St. Paul, Minnesota before Sylvester moved their family to California, where he attended school and Gladys worked in a factory making things like school lunch trays. The family moved back to North Dakota and she worked in Dunseith at San Haven before making her career at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby. She worked for close to 30 years there as a nurse’s aide and retired on April 4, 1995. Gladys and Sylvester raised their family in Rugby and have since resided. They also had their lake house in Garrison, where they enjoyed fishing, gardening and picnics at the lake. On Glady’s spare time, she would do craftwork and go to craft shows to set up and sell what she had made. She enjoyed dancing, in her younger years, watching her daily soap operas, older classic tv shows and loved to go to the casino, which she called her playhouse. Gladys was a caring, loving and thoughtful lady, who put thought into every gift she gave. Sylvester and Gladys did everything together and were very rarely apart, family meant everything to her and she is so very proud of them. She was blessed with her life and will be dearly missed.

Gladys is survived by her son, Mark of Rugby; grandchildren, Mike Grant, Kayla (Devona) Grand, Gary Grant Jr.; great grandchildren, Alyza, Logan and Talon Grant, Elliona Hamley and Jassiah Decoteau and Bentley, Hazen, Hudson and Houston Grant; brother, Bill Allard of Rolla; sister, Stella Longie of Dunseith; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
