Jerry Dean Olson, 75, Rugby died on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2022 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, North Dakota. He was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota on February 2, 1947 to Vernon and Vally Udager Olson. He grew up in Hot Springs and graduated from high school in Lead, South Dakota in 1965. Jerry worked in a television repair store in Sioux Falls until he entered the U.S. Army in 1966. He served in the signal corps in Viet Nam, Germany, and Hawaii as a telecommunications technician. Jerry also worked at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. in military communication systems. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 after 22 years of military service. Among the many citations, he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medals.

Jerry returned to South Dakota and managed a campground in the Sturgis area for 17 years. On July 5, 2003 he married Joyce Darlene Fayuant. They moved to Rugby in 2006 where they worked at Rugby Homes for several years.

Jerry was a member of Clarence Larson Post # 23 – American Legion and Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Rugby.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, and daughters; Jerilyn Eddy – Lanesboro, Minnesota and Jayne Lunsford, Guam, USA, and a son; Dean Olson – Nixa, Missouri. He also leaves 7 grandchildren and one great grandchild, and 3 step-grandchildren and a brother, Vernon Olson – Flower Mound, Texas. He also leaves step daughters, Tammi Pierce, LaDonna Schreiber, and Paulette Satterthwaite. He was preceded in death by his parents and a step-daughter, Michele Dissette.

Services will be held at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Rugby on Monday, January 2, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. Friends may call at the church from 9 AM until the time of the service. Military honors will be provided by the Clarence Larson Post # 23 – American Legion and the North Dakota Military Honors Detail.

At a later date, Mr. Olson will be inurned at the Black Hills National Cemetery – Sturgis, South Dakota.
