Kathryn “Klang” Louise Benson, 62, of Wolford, ND passed away Saturday November 19, 2022, in Minot after a courageous battle with cancer.
Kathryn Louise Lang was born to Donald and Esther (Fisher) Lang April 5, 1960 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She attended high school at the Chateauguay Valley Regional High School in Quebec. Following high school graduation, she obtained a business degree at the St. Lawrence College in Cornwall, Ontario. She married Dean Benson of Wolford July 1, 1987, at Fish Lake near Belcourt, North Dakota. They made their home on the family farm near Wolford. She later obtained her dual Canadian/American citizenship.
Klang was employed in various places and communities over the years with the most recent employment as the Towner County Veterans Service Officer. From 1988 to present she was a North Dakota National Guard Family Program Volunteer Coordinator.
Klang was a staunch supporter of the Dale and Martha Hawk Museum, volunteering for many events. She graciously sang the Canadian National Anthem prior to every parade as well as announcing each parade entry during the annual antique show. She was instrumental to introducing the children’s art exhibit to the Hawk Museum as well as conducting children’s art classes during the annual event.
Klang was an active member of the Cando Arts Council serving as their secretary. She helped coordinate and set up many art shows at the Audi Theater. She was passionate about her art and exhibited talent in her many artistic projects. Her friends and family were often recipients of her creative work; China painting, stained glass pieces, cement decorative stones, many sketches and drawings.
Klang supported the American Cancer Society participating yearly as a member of the Relay for Life team at the Lake Region Relay for Life walk. She had a tireless devotion to collecting donations for this endeavor.
Klang’s best buddy was Spirit, a black lab she adopted through the local Uffda Animal Rescue. Klang and Spirit traveled together thousands of miles in her camper van over the years visiting family and friends in Canada.
Many friends and family will remember Klang for her personal passions, which were many, her friendships, her laugh, and the high energy she always exhibited.
Klang is preceded in death by her father Donald Lang, sisters-in-law Carla Lee and LaVonna Benson, father and mother in-laws Dick and Babe Benson and nephew Jay Essen.
Klang is survived by her husband of 35 years, Dean Benson, mother Esther Lang, sisters Teresa Lang and Judy Lang of Canada, brothers-in-law Rick, Randy (Kathy) Benson, and Don Lee, nieces Rebecca (Tracy) and Emily Lee and Sara (Kyle) McClammer, nephews Jarrin Benson and Kullen Essen, many friends, and relatives in Canada.
Memorial Service will be held in the spring of 2023. Memorials are preferred to Uffda Fund Animal Rescue, 7496 68th AVE NE, Cando, ND 58324; Cando Arts Council, PO Box 368, Cando, ND 58324; or the Trinity Cancer Care Center, 831 S Broadway #113, Minot, ND 58701.
