Dennis Voeller

Dennis Joseph Voeller passed away at his home in Reno Valley Township – Pierce County on Tuesday morning, November 22, 2022. He was born in Rugby on April 18, 1944 to Peter and Rose Keller Voeller. He graduated from Rugby High School in 1962. Dennis joined the United States Navy in September 1963 and served on an aircraft carrier off the coast of Spain. After his discharge he returned to Rugby and began farming and raising animals such as horses, cattle, hogs and chickens. He married Sharon Ardith Hageness on February 20, 1971 in Rugby. During his farming-ranching years he helped with animal health work for his neighbors. He enjoyed showing horses at state wide horse shows as a member of the National Quarter Horse Association. Dennis found time to hunt, fish, look for arrowheads, gardening and practice his hobby of photography. Dennis cultivated his musical talents and learned how to play the guitar, violin, and banjo. For a time, he worked at the Rugby ASC Office and the North Dakota State Highway Department. A kind man, his neighbors will remember his helping hand and his regular visits around the community enjoying nature of the countryside.
Dennis served his community on the Reno Valley Township Board and as a county representative on the Rugby Planning and Zoning Board. For many years he was an active member of the Knox Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and later the Rugby American Legion Post # 23.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves a brother, Peter – Washington; two sisters, LaVonne Kessler – Glenburn, North Dakota and Rose Mary Greene – Iowa. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Hartley Hageness and sister-in-law Donna Hageness.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Laurie Voeller and his parents.
A service of remembrance will be held at the Niewoehner Funeral Home – Rugby on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. Friends may call on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of the service. Clarence Larson Post # 23 American Legion and the North Dakota Military Honors Detail will provide military honors.
