Alfred Weisser

Nov 12, 2022

Dec. 31, 1925 – Oct. 19, 2022

Alfred J. Weisser, 96, Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Harvey, ND died on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at a Scottsdale care center where he had been residing. Services will be held at a later date with interment in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.

Alfred was born on December 31, 1925 south of Martin, ND to John and Martha (Scheuffele) Weisser. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural school. The family lived on several farms in the Martin and Harvey areas.

Alfred married Verna V. Henne on April 7, 1946 in Harvey, ND. Their marriage of 67 years ended when Verna died in 2013. Alfred continued to reside in Harvey, moving to Arizona in January 2016.

Alfred had been a mechanic for several businesses in Harvey beginning in 1955. On July 1, 1971 he opened his own shop – Al’s Garage – which operated on Main Street until he retired in the late ’80s. Following his “retirement,” Alfred lived out his life-long dream of farming with people who soon became like family to him, working for another 18 years. He still wasn’t content to be “retired” so, at the age of 88, found a job as a dishwasher and bus“boy” at a local restaurant. Another chance to keep busy but also to engage with people – which he truly loved!

Alfred and Verna were very active members of the Congregational Church in Harvey prior to its closing in 2000, after which they enjoyed being members of the Martin Baptist Church. They volunteered for Faith in Action for six years and received several Outstanding Volunteer Awards. Alfred was proud to have served on the Harvey City Council for many years before being voted in as Mayor.

Alfred was a humble, kind and caring man and strong in his faith, always happy to share his knowledge of scripture. He loved meeting people and became quite adventurous! His nearly 97 years of life brought him many great stories … which he was also happy to share, many times with a hearty laugh and sometimes with a tear. He was always grateful to the many loyal customers he had while being a mechanic and for the countless friendships he held dear, but more than anything, Alfred was thankful to God for his many blessings.

Alfred is survived by his son, David (Geneva) Weisser of Hastings, MN; daughters, Nancy (Tom) Granner of St. Paul, MN and Cindy Weisser of Phoenix; AZ; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters Betty and Margie; along with sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews he adored. He will be missed by many!

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Loren; sister, Alice; and brothers Alvin, Leroy and Herbert.
