Shirley Ann Walsh

Shirley Ann Holmly, daughter of Leland and Minnie (Ness) Holmly was born in Rolette, ND on August 16, 1932. She was raised on the family farm near Nanson, ND along
with her three brothers and sister. She attended Nanson and Rolette schools. She was baptized and confirmed at Ox Creek Lutheran Church rural Rolette.
On October 20, 1951 Shirley and Wesley G. Walsh were united in marriage at Ox Creek Lutheran Church. After their marriage they moved to a farm near Mylo, ND
where they raised small grains, dairy and beef cattle. They resided on the farm until they retired and moved to Rolette in 1996. They had been married for over
60 years when Wesley passed away on October 5, 2012.
Shirley was active in all aspects of farm life. She raised a large garden, canned, took care of the farm yard, helped with the dairy operation and drove grain trucks.
She always managed to provide delicious lunches and meals for her family and farm workers.She especially enjoyed planting a variety of beautiful flowers that would border
her garden every summer.
Shirley was an active member of Mylo Lutheran Church, Mylo and later Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette.
Shirley enjoyed decorating her home for every holiday. She collected sets of dishes, crystal and tea pots. The dish sets were often seen on her beautifully set holiday tables.
Shirley and her host of friends spent many hours enjoying coffee and visiting.
The greatest joy in Shirley’s life was being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Visits from the grandchildren and great grandchildren was a highlight in her life.
Shirley enjoyed retirement in her home in Rolette until she moved to Haaland Estates in Rugby in January 2020. There she received excellent loving care from the staff, made new
friends and enjoyed a large array of activities. In September 2022 she moved to Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead, MN.
On October 23, 2022 at the age of 90 Shirley passed way at Eventide following a brief illness. She was provided wonderful care during her final days.
Shirley is survived by her three children: Linda (Clayton) Parrill, Bottineau, ND, Evie (Jack) Brennan, West Fargo ND, Dennis (Kathy) Walsh, Harvey, ND.
Grandchildren: Katie (Tyrell) Lauckner, Albuquerque, NM, Andrea (Jeff) Paulson, Hawley, MN, Diana Brennan, Frazee, MN, David (Kelsey) Parrill, Hettinger, ND, Steven (Laura) Brennan, Friendswood, TX,
Brian (Aundrea) Walsh, Woodbury, MN, Aaron (Jayme) Walsh, Harvey,ND and Kevin (Mindy) Walsh, Fargo, ND
Great grandchildren: Levi, Braxton, Declan and Aubrey Lauckner, Lucas, Alex, Lisa and Amelia Paulson, Ross and Roman Brennan, Jensen and Hayes Parrill, JC, Lorraine and Matthew Brennan,
Harrison, Elliott,and Addison Walsh, Jeremiah, Jonathan, Grace and Joseph Walsh, Hannah and Lucy Walsh.
Twin brother Shelby (Marcheta) Holmly, Minot, sister-in-law Lucille (Marlo) Gould, Wahpeton, brother-in-law Stanley Kittelson, Dickinson and many beloved nieces, nephews
and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley, parents, Leland and Minnie Holmly, brothers Wendall and Doyle Holmly, sister Betty Kittelson, sister-in-law, Marian Holmly,
her grandsons Ross, Matthew and Mark Brennan and great-grandaughter, Sophia Walsh.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held at Tuesday, Nov 1, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at Valle Lutheran Church
in Rolette, ND with visitation at the church from 11 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be at 3:30 at
Ox Creek Cemetery south of Rolette.
