Monica Grove

Monica Grove, 85, Rugby, died Friday, October 28, 2022 at Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, ND. Monica was born May 5, 1937, to Paul and Clara (Vetsch) Sand. She was raised and educated in Balta. She married Archie Grove on June 6, 1956 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Balta. They raised their six children on a farm south of Rugby where they resided for their entire 55 years of marriage until Archie’s death in May 2011. Monica continued to live on the farmstead until 2017 when she moved to Nebraska to live with her daughter Debra. In 2018, Monica returned to Rugby residing in Haaland Estates and then long-term care HAMC. We thank the staff of Heart of America for their loving care the last years of Monica’s life.
To this union 6 children were born; Debra – Minatare, Nebraska, Donald – Fargo, Linda (Chuck) Duchscher – Rugby, Aaron (Barb) – Mandan, Brad (Kristi) – Rugby, Byron (Michelle) – Aberdeen, South Dakota. The grandchildren are Kristie, Chadd (Eryka), Tory (Audrey) Rocheleau, Patricia Grove, Rachael (Dustin) Ketterling, Jeff (Cassie) Duchscher, Michael (Melanie) Duchscher, Kyle Volk, Miranda (Cody) Dachtler, Chelsea and Matthew Grove. Great Grandchildren are Jacob, Nate, and Sam Rocheleau, Katelyn, Andrew, Jaclyn, and Austin Duchscher, Tyler and Hailey Ketterling, Trystan, Dominic, and Quinn Duchscher.
Monica was active at Little Flower Church her entire life. She sang in the church choir and was secretary at Little Flower School. She was an active member of Confraternity of Christian Mothers, and she served on many committees. She worked on the Balta all school reunion and centennial celebration, also worked on their Jubiliee and 100th anniversary book editions. She also worked at several offices at the Pierce County Court House.
She volunteered so much at the Heart of America Medical Center and had completed all the required training that they offered her a part time job. She worked there and was always available when someone was sick or couldn’t make it to work and for years did hair care at the hospital.
Her love of flowers has been passed down through the generations, along with her family recipes. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whether it was time at the lake or attending their sports events.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; sister, Agnes Axtman, and sisters-in law Ione and Gloria Grove. She was preceded by her husband, Archie; parents, Paul and Clara; sisters Christine, Catherine, Rosa, and Joan; brothers, Paul, Peter, Claude, John, Philip, Anthony, Meinrad, and Gerald.
Funeral services will be held at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Paulraj Thondappa and Rev. Franklin Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Little Flower Catholic
Cemetery. There will be a reception following the burial in the church fellowship hall.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the Niewoehner Funeral Home in Rugby from 4 PM until the time of a prayer service at 7 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday morning from 8AM until 10:30 AM. There is no reviewal at the church. www.niewoehnerfh.com 701-776-6222
