Duane Burns

Duane Arthur Burns, the son of Roger and Augusta “Patsy” Burns was born May 25, 1940, in Rugby, North Dakota. He went to his heavenly home at the age of 82 years on Monday, October 24, 2022, at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.
Duane was raised in the rural York and Esmond areas, where he received his education in country school near his home. Following his schooling he worked for a farmer until he went to a trade school in Bismarck focusing on automotive repair, returning to the area and went to work for Rugby Motor Company for the next 35 years as a body man.
Duane was united in marriage Shirley Johnson in June of 1959, and they were blessed with two daughters, Brenda and JoAnn. They were his pride and joy and was so enormously proud of them. He was elated when his grandsons, Samuel and Jonathon were born. His face would glow when he spoke of them. When his great grandson Greyson was born his day was brightened immensely. Duane was a fun-loving guy and was a bit of a jokester, He liked to tease his nieces when they came to visit. He enjoyed watching westerns on TV, fishing, gardening, and cutting wood which he heated his home with for many years. He liked to visit Henry, his grand dog, who would follow him wherever he went. Duane and Shirley liked to go camping and he enjoyed his rides he went on with Jonathon. Duane attended Knox Lutheran Church where his daughter Brenda was Pastor and recently attended Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church when he was able.
Duane is survived by his daughter, JoAnn Burns; Grandson, Jonathon (Shelby Groth) and Great-grandson Greyson Burns, all of Rugby. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, daughter Brenda, grandson, Samuel; mother and father-in-law, Alfred and Olena Johnson, sisters-in- law; Addie and Delores; brothers-in- law; Raymond, Kenny and LaVerne.
Funeral Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Rugby with burial in the Pleasant Valley Brethren Cemetery in Rural York. Pastor Nathan Steen, officiating.
