Janet Kraft

Mar 26, 2022

Nov. 17, 1935-March 16, 2022

Janet Mary Ann Kraft,

the daughter of Joseph

and Theresa (Mass) Fon-

taine, was born on No-

vember 17, 1935 in rural

Dunseith, North Dakota.

She died at the age of 86

years on Wednesday,

March 16, 2022 at the

Heart of America Care

Center in Rugby, North

Dakota.

Janet was raised in the

Dunseith area and attend-

ed Dunseith Schools. Be-

ing raised by French

Canadian parents and

grandparents, she would

speak both French and

English as a child. The

family had a restaurant

where she worked as a

waitress until she mar-

ried. She attended a dance

in Bottineau and met Wil-

liam “Bill” Kraft and they

were united in marriage

on June 14, 1955 in the St.

Louis Catholic Church in

Dunseith. The couple

made their home on the

Kraft family homestead

where they farmed,

ranched and raised their

children. She was a

member of the Sacred

Heart Catholic Church in

Rolette and the altar so-

ciety.

Janet helped with every

aspect of the farm along

with the baking, cooking

and gardening. She

worked hard throughout

her life, still using a

wringer washing machine

and never had a dryer.

She always had a pot of

coffee ready, along with

baked goodies for neigh-

bors, family and friends

who would stop by. Her

greatest joy was her chil-

dren and later grandchil-

dren and greats. When

family would come home,

they enjoyed playing

Yahtzee, cards and Aggra-

vation. She was known

for her homemade buns

and her grandchildren

couldn’t wait for

grandma’s hotdish and

sloppy joes! She lived at

home with Bill, and their

dog Jake, until 2018,

when they both entered

assisted living facilities.

Her loyal dog Jake still re-

sides at the family farm.

She is survived by her

(Roger Leitschuh) of Coon

Rapids, Minnesota,

Wanda (Rick) Olson of

Sentinel Butte and

Timothy (Tami) Kraft of

Rugby; grandchildren,
