Stella Lunde

Stella (Opstedal) Lunde,

the daughter of Fred and

Betsy (Kjorvestad)

Opstedal, was born on

April 6, 1928 on the fami-

ly farm in rural Rolette,

North Dakota. She died at

the age of 93 years on

Tuesday, January 18, 2022

at the Heart of America

Care Center in Rugby,

North Dakota.

Stella was the youngest

child of the family, or as

she liked to say, ‘the

baby’. She attended

school in a one-room

schoolhouse and enjoyed

helping on the farm and

being around the animals.

She was close to all her si-

blings while growing up

and throughout her life,

but she had a special rela-

tionship with her sister,

Tena and the two of them

were very close. On

October 10, 1947, she was

united in marriage to Or-

ville Lunde in Minot and

they began their life to-

gether. Orville and Stella

moved to Rugby soon

thereafter, and their son,

Roy was born in 1952.

Stella was a stay at home

mom for the next several

years, taking care of the

family and their house-

hold. Later, she went to

work as a cook for the

Rugby School and loved

being able to work around

kids.

She was an outstanding

mother and very special

grandma who would do

anything for her son and

grandsons. She especially

loved taking care of her

grandsons when they

were younger and attend-

ing birthdays, Thanksgiv-

ings and Christmases with

her family. She was the

best grandma her grand-

sons could ask for and

they always looked for-

ward to coming to visit

grandma and grandpa in

Rugby, while growing up.

Stella and Orville were

married for over 54 years

and lived in the same

home in Rugby for most

of that time. Stella en-

joyed cooking, playing

cards, meeting friends for

coffee and pie and read-

ing, but the most impor-

tant thing in her life was

her family and she will be

dearly missed. She was a

member of the First Luth-

eran Church in Rugby.

Stella is survived by

her sons, Roy (Bev) of

Thief River Falls, Min-

nesota; grandsons, Micha-

el of Saint Paul and Derek

(Ashley) of Maple Grove;

and on May 1, 2021, she

was thrilled to welcome

great grandson, Asher;

several nieces, nephews;

other relatives and

friends. She was preceded

in death by her husband,

Orville in 2001; brothers,

Roy, Stanley, Nils and

Lloyd; sister, Tena Berg

and her parents.

There will be a family

graveside service at a

later date. The family will

make a gift in Stella’s

memory and no other gifts

are requested.
