Frank “Billy” W. Alfstad

Jan 8, 2022

May 30, 1945-Dec. 20, 2021

Frank “Billy” W. Alfs-

tad, the son of Gorden

and Myrtle (Helland) Alfs-

tad was born on May 30,

1945 in New Rockford,

North Dakota. He died at

the age of 76 on Thurs-

day, December 30, 2021 at

his home under the care

of his wife, family and

hospice in Rugby, North

Dakota.

Billy was raised in the

home of his parents in

Bremen, North Dakota

and attended grade school

there. He graduated from

Maddock Benson County

Agriculture High School,

where he met his future

wife. On January 30, 1965,

he was united in marriage

to Elaine Erickson at Im-

manuel Lutheran Church

in rural Maddock. The

couple made their home

in Maddock, ND where

Billy worked at the Mad-

dock Creamery for a short

while then moved to Rug-

by where they raised their

three children, Darren,

Tonya and Steven. After

moving to Rugby Billy

drove fuel transport truck

for over 51 years. He

worked for Lake Region,

NRF then CHS, and

closed out his trucking

career at Central Tran-

sport retiring in 2017. Bil-

ly would tell you he knew

where he was on Highway

2 by the bumps in the

road which may have

been a true story as he

traveled many of the same

highways over his 51

years with an estimated 5

million miles at the

wheel. Billy was a

member of First Lutheran

Church in Rugby, Rugby

Eagles Club and a Life

Member of the North

Dakota Fireman’s Associ-

ation after volunteering

for the Rugby Fire Depart-

ment for over 30 years. He

was a jack of all trades

and typically always tried

to fix a problem (often

succeeding) before calling

the professional. He en-

joyed fishing, gardening,

hunting, and tinkering in

his shop. For the last 25

years if he wasn’t driving

or busy with one of his

pastimes he was probably

in Fargo or Mankato visit-

ing grandkids.

Billy is survived by his

wife, Elaine; children,

Peter, MN; grandchildren,
