Rosina Schmidt
March 18, 1928-Dec. 14, 2021
Rosina Schmidt, the
daughter of Mathias and
Marion (Bohl) Garman
was born on March 18,
1928 in Pierce County,
North Dakota. She died at
the age of 93 years on
Tuesday, December 14,
2021 at the Heart of Amer-
ica Medical Center in
Rugby, North Dakota.
Rosina was raised in the
rural Balta area and gra-
duated from Balta High
School. She worked as a
CNA at the Rugby Hospi-
tal. Rosina met Peter
Schmidt at a wedding
dance and on October 11,
1948, they were united in
marriage at Our Lady of
Mount Carmel Catholic
Church in Balta, North
Dakota. The couple made
their home on his family
farm in Rosebush Town-
ship in McHenry County.
Together, they raised their
16 children. Rosina was a
hard worker, not only did
she take care of the house
and raise her children,
she worked alongside Pete
on the farm. After her
youngest child was off to
school, she went to work
night shifts at the Heart of
America Medical Center
as a CNA in long term
care and worked for 14
years, which she enjoyed
it immensely. Rosina and
Pete retired and moved to
Rugby in 1996.
Throughout her life, she
enjoyed knitting, crochet-
ing, making afghans for
each grandchild’s gradua-
tion and made beautiful
tablecloths for each of her
children. She was a pro-
fessional and meticulous
seamstress, making all the
children’s clothes for
school, sewing wedding
dresses, making countless
bridesmaid dresses and
ring bearer pillows as well
as crocheting flower girl
baskets. She loved to cro-
chet little ornaments and
gifts for her grandchildren
and great grandchildren.
Rosina never sat idle, al-
ways had a needle and
yarn in hand and loved to
do needlepoint kits and
wall hangings.
Rosina had a strong
faith in God and going to
mass was most important
to her. She would recite
the rosary, naming for all
the grandchildren and
great grandchildren, never
missing one. May our
Mom rest in peace, May
God take your hand and
lead you to His Heavenly
home. She was our rock,
healer, peacemaker, seam-
stress, needleworker, and
protector of all that is evil
in the world. She is final-
ly resting and in the arms
of our Dad and her grand-
daughter. Please watch
over us, as we keep our
journey on earth going.
Love you with all our
hearts and we will miss
you dearly.
