Sylvia Lorraine (Pederson) Beattie
Feb. 4, 1941-Oct. 12, 2021
Surrounded by her
children’s voices, our
beloved mom, grandma,
great grandma passed
away peacefully on Oc-
tober 12, 2021, at the age
of 80 years at the Sunset
Drive Senior Community
in Mandan, North Dakota.
Sylvia was born to Leo-
nard and Cecilia (Legreid)
Pederson on February 4,
1941, on a farmstead in
Griggs County, ND. She
attended school in Hanna-
ford, ND which is where
she met the love of her
life Larry Beattie. The
couple were married on
May 7, 1961, at the First
Lutheran Church in Han-
naford, ND. They moved
around for a few years
due to Larry’s tree service
employment, but finally
settled in Rolette ND in
1970, where they expand-
ed and raised their family.
They proudly purchased
the local “Tastee Freez” in
1978 and successfully
operated their business
for 20 years.
Sylvia was known by all
to be a busy, hardworking
woman. She had a big
heart and was such a giv-
ing soul. She crocheted
countless blankets, pil-
lows, and scarves, made
many tie-blankets, and I
would bet she flipped
more hamburgers than
Dave Thomas (Wendy’s)
himself. She enjoyed her
Friday night bowling
league and all the friends
they made along the way.
She was a jack of all
trades and worked multi-
ple different jobs in her
lifetime. She was also the
queen of “cat-naps,”
which is what kept her
going during her 12-13
hour shifts at the
“Tastee-Freez” for all
those years. She enjoyed
assisting with quilting and
loved canning while hav-
ing a glass or two of wine.
Her beautiful smile was
contagious and will be
missed by all.
She will be forever
cherished and remem-
bered by her children Lar-
ry Jr. (Karen) Beattie, Lee
(Jan) Beattie, Lowell Beat-
tie, Laurie (Brian) Crosby,
Lynn (Jesse) Klein and
(Denise) Beattie; thirteen
grandchildren Lindsey,
Kristi, Kacie (Skylar),
Morgan (Jonathan), Jor-
dan, Nichole, Matthew,
Zachary, Taylor (Karl),
Jacob, Tristan, Marlee and
Trevor; and six great-
grandchildren Brianna,
Leah, Morgan, Jakson,
Ryder and Auggie. Sylvia
will be missed by her si-
blings, Doris (Dave), Ed-
ward (Sharon), Jeanette
and Joyce (Clay); as well
as many nieces, nephews,
relatives, and friends.
Preceded in death by
her husband Larry, broth-
ers Howard and Herman,
sisters Myrtle and Clarice,
nephews Ernie, John and
Keith, and her parents,
Leonard and Cecilia
Pederson.
Funeral Services were
held at 11:00 a.m. Mon.
Oct. 18th at the Valle
Lutheran Church in
