Helen Marie Kuhnert

Helen Marie Kuhnert,

94, formerly of Rugby,

died on April 3, 2021 at

Opal Memory Care in Na-

ples, Florida.

She was born in Pierce

County on September 11,

1926 to Martin and Petra

(Westgard) Stutrud. Helen

grew up on the family

farm near Tunbridge and

graduated from Rugby

High School in 1943 and

later earned a teaching

certificate from Minot

State Teachers College.

She taught school in Bar-

ton and Wolford, North

Dakota.

Helen worked at the

ASCS office in Rugby for

21 years and retired in

November, 1981. She

moved to the Haaland

Estates in 2001 and to

Florida in 2016. She was a

longtime member of

Bethany Lutheran Church

in Rugby.

In August 1949 she

married Vernon Sherwin

of Willow City. He died in

a crop dusting airplane

accident in June 1955. In

August 1969 she married

Vernon Kuhnert of Wil-

low City. He died in

March 1997.

Helen is survived by:

her daughters, Renae

(Paul) Lester – Florida,

Karen Sherwin – Mary-

land, and her son, Kelly

(Betty) Sherwin – Arizona.

She also leaves 2

grandchildren and 2

great-grandchildren. In

addition she leaves step-

daughters Marlys Erick-

son – Idaho, Carol Lassis-

ter – Florida, and a sister,

Elsie Anderson – Rugby.

She was preceded in

death by: her two hus-

bands, parents, brothers

Earl, Obert, Raymond,

and Melvin Stutrud, a sis-

ter Alma Lowe who lived

in Wisconsin, stepchil-

dren, Deb Gross, Vern

(Punky) Kuhnert, Jr. and

Ronald Kuhnert, who

lived in Michigan.

Graveside services will

be held on Thursday, July

8, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at

Persilla Watts Cemetery in

Rugby.
