Fred Peter Vetsch
July 6, 1934-June 21, 2021
Fred Peter Vetsch, the
son of George and Agnes
(Goetz) Vetsch was born
on July 6, 1934 in Rugby,
North Dakota. He died at
the age of 86 on Monday,
June 21, 2021 at his home
in Rugby under the care
of his wife and hospice.
Fred grew up on the
family farm in the
Fillmore area. Fred at-
tended school at Fillmore
until he had to quit due to
an illness. After he
recovered, he helped on
the farm and continued
farming throughout his
life. On August 21, 1961
he was united in marriage
to Gloria Schneider at St.
Boniface Church in Es-
mond. To this union,
four children were born,
Larry, Duane, Donald and
Brenda. The couple
raised their family in the
Fillmore/Esmond area.
After retirement, they
moved to their house in
Rugby. Fred was a care-
taker for Buffalo Lake
Sportsmen Club in Es-
mond for 35 years. He
helped Gloria with city
maintenance for the ten
years that she was Mayor
of Esmond. In his spare
time, he helped his best
friend James Wack, when
he worked on furnaces,
sewers or electrical prob-
lems and any other handy
work that needed to be
done. He enjoyed trying
to guess the names of
songs on Saturday morn-
ing oldies but goodies
with the morning coffee
group. Fred had a great
love for his children,
grandchildren and great
grandchildren and all the
children that adopted him
as a dad, grandpa and
great grandpa. He and his
granddaughter, Lexi were
lucky to share a birthday
that they both cherished.
He enjoyed his dog, Rex
and towards the end, Rex
would sneak in and lay in
bed with him. They will
all miss him.
