Carl Richard “Dick”

Benson was born April 5,

1933 to Carl and Doris

(Paulson) in Bisbee, North

Dakota. He attended

school in Bisbee and on

June 3, 1951 he was unit-

ed in marriage to Babe Jol-

liffe in the Mylo Lutheran

Church. They made their

home in the rural Wolford

area on a farm and to this

union four children were

born; Carla, Rick, Randy,

and Dean.

Dick farmed in the

Wolford/Agate area his

entire life and worked

several winters in the late

1950’s in the oil fields of

Tioga. He enjoyed spend-

ing summers at the lake

cabin on Belcourt Lake

where his family would

visit and enjoy pontoon

rides, water skiing and

fishing. He loved to hunt

in the area and out west.

Dick earned his private

pilot’s license and had 2

planes, first a Cessna 170

with a red tail that Babe

would spot when he flew

over the lake. Later with

his 2nd plane, a Cessna

172, he flew Babe all over

the state to fly-in break-

fasts, or to “visit” friends

(by buzzing them over-

head) and sometimes just

checking fields. In his re-

tirement he took up gar-

dening, growing abun-

dance of tomatoes, beans,

peas, and was proud of

the roses around the deck.

Dick had many blue

heeler dogs over the years

and leaves behind Rusty,

a red heeler. Dick was a

member of the Mylo Luth-

eran Church and served

on the church council; he

also served on the Wol-

ford School Board, the

Agate Oil Company and

later the North Central

Grain Co-op boards. Dick

joined Babe in the Towner

County Living Center in

August of 2020. She
