Leonard Marvin Peder-

son was born on No-

vember 3, 1937 to

Senwick and Inga (Olsen)

Pederson at his

grandparents’ home in

rural Benson County,

North Dakota. He died at

the age of 83 years on

Thursday, April 22, 2021

at the Heart of America

Medical Center in Rugby,

North Dakota.

Leonard was raised on

the family farm and gra-

duated from Knox High

School in 1955. He

worked on the family

farm and joined the Na-

tional Guard. After com-

pleting basic training, he

returned to the farm. He

went on to Washington

State to find work and re-

turned home a year later

to work for the Pleasant

Lake Grain Company. In

1961, he was called to ac-

tive duty, due to the Ber-

lin Crisis and was honor-

ably discharged in 1964.

He returned home to work

for the Pleasant Lake

Grain Company and later

worked repairing grain

elevators. In 1967, he

went to Washington state

and began working for the

Boeing Company and

worked on building the

first 747 that was

manufactured. He was

united in marriage to Bev-

erly Opstedal in 1967 in

Bothell, Washington. The

couple returned to North

Dakota in 1968, where

they raised their family in

Rolette. Leonard worked

at the Cenex L.P. Gas

Plant for 20 years up until

the company closed the

plant. He also worked as

a mechanic at Johnson

Standard and over the

road truck driver for Kavli

Trucking until his retire-

ment in 1999. After re-

tirement, he drove buses

for Harlow’s Busing and

helped Dale Pederson

with springs work and

harvest. Leonard and Bev

moved to a farmstead by

Towner to do what he

loved, working with cattle

and horses. He lived

there until his death. Leo-

nard loved his children.

He enjoyed going to their

sporting events, school ac-

tivated, 4H horse club and

horse shows.

Leonard is survived by

his wife of 53 years, Bev-

erly of Towner;

daughters, Brenda Peder-

son of Rolette, Beth

(Doug) Domsten of Orlan-

do, Florida; sons, Steven

(Krystle) of Towner, and

Timothy of Rolette;

grandchildren, Laney

Pederson, Ty (Audrey)

Domsten, Ethan (Katie)

Domsten, Molly Domsten

and Lilly Pederson; great

grandchildren, Arya and

Ezra Domsten;

brother-in-law, Vernon

Opstedal; sisters-in-law,

Carol Massine and Alvera

(Chuck) Emery; aunts,

Gertie Olson and Jessie

Olson; numerous nieces,

nephews; other relatives

and friends. He was pre-

ceded in death by his

parents, infant sibling

twins; Alton and Alice;

brothers, David, and Art;

brothers-in-law, Wayne

Sabo, and Frank Massine;

sister-in-law, Chris

Opstedal; and his in-laws,

Stanley and Clarice

Opstedal.

Funeral services were

held at 11:00 a.m. Friday,

April 30th at the Glad

Tidings Assembly of God

Church in Rugby with a

1:45 p.m. burial in the

Union Cemetery, Knox

with Military Honors pro-

vided by the North Dakota

Military Funeral Honors
