Darrell Block

Darrell Block, the son of
William and Laura (Klebe)
Block was born on July
26, 1936 in Rugby, North
Dakota. He died at the age
of 84 years on Wednes-
day, January 27, 2021 at
Trinity Medical Center in
Minot, North Dakota.
Darrell was raised in
Willow City and baptized
and confirmed at Willow
Creek Lutheran Church in
rural Willow City. He gra-
duated from high school
in 1955. He was drafted in
the U.S. Army in June
1955 and was honorably
discharged in 1957. On
October 29, 1958, he was
united in marriage to
Kathlyn Erickson in Car-
pio, North Dakota. The
couple raised their six
children in Towner and
were married for 62 years.
He worked for Henes Mo-
tor in Willow City, Westle
Motor in Minot and
owned a mechanic shop
called Blocks Repair in
Willow City. He was also
a mechanic for Larson
John Deere in Towner,
Winger Cheese for 25
years and loved to custom
combine with his boys.
After his retirement, he
combined for the Schells,
a job he loved. Darrell was
a member of Faith Luth-
eran Church, the Willow
City American Legion,
Towner Fire and Ambu-
lance and served on many
church boards. He and
Kathlyn raised a great
family full of life and
humor, who will miss
him dearly.
Darrell is survived by
his wife; children, Jim
(Sherri) Block of Hazen,
Mary Jane Block of Har-
vey, Jackie (Rod) Burck-
hard of Towner, Jerry
(Teresa) Block of Rugby,
Jodi (Terry) Fransen of
Milford, NE and Jason
(Sarah) Block of Minot;
grandchildren, Shane
(Andrea) Block, Shelby
(Chelsey) Block, Shyler
Block, Nichole (Daniel)
Syvertson, Tyler Block,
Ryan (Kyra) Block, Talya
Block, Brady Block, Evan
Burckhard, Garrett Fran-
sen and Lauryn Fransen;
great grandchildren, Kar-
son & Ava Block, Sawyer
& Luke Syvertson and
Ashton, Ember and Ivory
Block; a brother, Marvin
of Towner; In-laws,
Sharon (Rod) Gillund,
Terry (Nancy) Erickson,
Sally Erickson and Janice
Block; nieces, nephews;
other relatives and
friends. He was preceded
in death by a son, Jeff;
brother, Garry; nephew,
Robert; niece, Debbie;
in-laws, Darlene Block
and Don Erickson; 2 great
nephews and his parents.

Memorial services were
held at 11:00 a.m. Tues-
day, Feb. 2 at St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Rug-
by. Pastor Daryl Roth-
child, Officiating. Burial
will take place in the sum-
mer.
