Janice Hoiland, 73,
Glenburn, passed away on
Sunday, January 3, 2021,
at a Minot assisted living
facility.
Janice Katherine (Hal-
vorson) Hoiland was born
August 15, 1947 in Rugby,
ND first born to A. Mel-
ford and Theresa (Bisch-
off) Halvorson. Jan was
raised on the family farm
near Knox. She attended
Knox Public School and
graduated from Rugby
Public School in 1965.
She attended Valley City
State College. Jan worked
as a bookkeeper in Devils
Lake, Grand Forks and
Boise, ID. In 1976 she
moved to Minot to attend
Minot State College. Jan
began working at First
American Bank (Bremer
Bank), Minot, in 1978.
Jan met John Hoiland
on September 15, 1989 in
Richardton, ND. They
married on February 17,
1996 in Glenburn, ND.
Residing in Glenburn Jan
continued working at Bre-
mer Bank in Minot and
helped John with farming.
True to her faith Jan
was a member of Trinity
Lutheran Church where
she was involved
throughout different areas
of the church. Especially
the Roast Beef Dinners.
After retiring from in
2004 from Bremer Bank
Jan continued her hobbies
of reading, gardening and
collecting antique Fiesta
dishes. Jan continued her
love of helping people by
becoming the manager of
the Glenburn Food Pan-
try. Jan and John spent
many hours picking up
food in Minot and
delivery food basket. Jan
was involved in the Glen-
burn Lion’s Club and the
Glenburn Community
Development Corporation
where she served on the
board of directors and
treasurer of both organi-
zations.
In 2012, Jan was award-
ed the Renville County –
YWCA Woman of Distinc-
tion Award for her work
at the Food Pantry
Jan’s days were spent
walking and taking care of
her Chocolate Lab –
Butte. Butte was by Jan’s
side all the time including
sleeping with Jan and
John.
Jan is survived by her
husband, John;
step-daughter, Lyndee
(Tyler) Heser, Williston;
step-grandsons, Teagan
and Holden, Williston;
sisters, Judith (George)
Railsback, Bismarck and
Karla (Douglas) Johanson,
Bismarck; brother, Mark
Halvorson, Bismarck;
sister-in-law, Debra Kunk-
el (Halvorson); special
nieces and nephews,
Brenda Halvorson, and
son, Ian, Hanford, CA
Joanne (John) Carillo and
girls Raylynn and Jana,
Templeton, CA, Sarah
(Logan) Reindel and chil-
dren Emma, Brently and
Henry, Bismarck, Nick

Jan was preceded in
death by parents; broth-
ers, Bryon and Duane Hal-
vorson; and in-laws John
and Bernice Hoiland.
A memorial service
was held on Friday, Janu-
ary 8, 2021 at 11 a.m. at
Trinity Lutheran Church
in Glenburn. The service
will be video recorded for
the public to view and

Visitation was on
Thursday, January 7, 2021
from 4-6 p.m. at
Thompson-Larson Fun-
eral Home in Minot. In
lieu of flowers the family
requests memorials to
Glenburn Food Pantry,
Trinity Lutheran
Church-memorial fund or
the Metigoshe Ministries.
