Eugene Earl Stanley
born December 11, 1952
at Sibley, Iowa to his
parents Clarence and Mel-
va (Karges) Stanley. He
died at the age of 68 years
on Monday December
28th, 2020 at their coun-
try home designed by
them and built by him.
His early years were
lived in Allendorf, Iowa,
Fairhaven, IL, and Drake,
ND. In 1967 the family
moved to Elgin, ND. He
graduated from Elgin Pub-
lic High School. Eugene
had a long time personal
relationship with Jesus.
Eugene’s witness was a
source of great encourage-
ment to many and
brought those who knew
him closer to God. He
spent a few summers as
a camp counselor for the
mentally handicapped at
Wesley Acres, was also a
houseparent at a Hopi
Native American School
in Arizona for a brief
time.
On August 20, 1977 he
was united in marriage to
Ruth Gupman of Lem-
mon, SD. Following their
marriage and while rais-
ing a family he worked for
Dakota Fire Extinguishers,
attended school for auto
body repair, was foreman
of the Sheep Creek Coal-
mine, Attended Technical
College for Electrical mo-
tor repair and had several
private businesses. He
designed and built stump
grinders and had a stump
grinding business. Also a
worm casting farm, a
U-pick strawberry patch, a
lawn spraying business,
windshield repair, an in-
dustrial range hood clean-
ing business and Dakota
Prairie Woodworking. He
currently worked for
Heart of America Ag Ser-
vices of Rugby, ND and
Goodon Industries.
He is remembered as a
kind, quiet, gentle, loving
husband, father and
grandfather. He enjoyed
giving 4 wheeler rides and
sitting on the deck enjoy-
ing the sunset and making
popcorn balls and rice
krispy bars. He also en-
joyed woodworking, hunt-
ing and fishing. Especially
enjoyed teaching the
grandchildren how to
hunt gophers. He was gift-
ed with his hands,
creative and artistic.
He is survived by his
wife Ruth (Gupman) and
three children. Lisa (Clay-
ton) Birkland and their
two sons, Levi and Seth.

and their three children,
Shyla, Hudson and Kolt.
Jennifer (Wes) Loughman,
their three children,
Oliver, Bennett, and
Agnes. Mother-in-law Lu-
ella Gupman and
honorary son CJ
Preheim.
Special tribute to the
neighbors and friends

and daughters Hannah,
Tabitha and Sarah, Josh
Dockter, Bob and Deb
Schmaltz, Cindy
Schwartz, niece Amanda,
Pastor Gary, Mark Ostrem
and Doug Borgen to name
a few) and the faithful
prayer warriors who
went above and beyond to
provide support, love and
comfort in the last few
months. He was preced-
ed in death by
brother-in-law John Gup-
man, father-in-law Philip
Gupman, Father, Clarence
Stanley, Mother, Melva
Stanley and
brother-in-law Gary Abra-
hamson.
Memorial services will
be held at 1:00 p.m. Satur-
day, January 2 at the Cal-
vary Evangelical Free
Church in Rugby with
burial at 3:30pm in the
Persilla Watts Cemetery,
Rugby. Pastor Mike Lund-
berg and Rev. Gary Dorn,
officiating.
