Bertha Elaine
Liming
June 7, 1936 – June 14, 2020
Bertha Elaine Liming,
84, Rugby, ND, the
daughter of William and
Elizabeth (Sattler) Volk,
was born on June 7, 1936
in Rugby, North Dakota.
She died peacefully at the
age of 84 on Sunday, June
14th at the Lutheran
Home of the Good
Shepherd in New Rock-
ford, ND, with her chil-
dren by her side.
Bertha was raised in the
home of her parents in
Rugby and graduated
from high school there,
the class of 1954. Bertha
married the love of her
life, Dwight L. Liming, on
January 24, 1955 at the
Little Flower Catholic
Church in Rugby.
Dwight’s college and work
took them to Fargo and
New Rockford, North
Dakota, where she worked
as a bookkeeper for J. C.
Penney in both cities. In
1960, they moved to
Towner, North Dakota
and finally settling in
Rugby in 1962. While
Dwight was establishing
his barber shop, Bertha
worked as a bookkeeper
and tax preparer for over
40 years combined at
Dean Bucklin Service
Agency, Don Rupp, and
H&R Block. In addition,
she was the bookkeeper of
The Hamilton Motel and
Steakhouse and was ap-
pointed by the Mayor and
served as Rugby’s City
Treasurer.
She was a fantastic
listener that always took
the time to help others, or
just let them vent.
Bertha enjoyed garden-
ing and canning veget-
ables and was a fantastic
cook and baker. She
loved to curl up and read
a good book, solve cross-
word puzzles, do word
search, or Sudoku. She
enjoyed shooting her sin-
gle shot .22 with Dad,
bowling, dancing and of
course, playing bingo.
She always looked for-
ward to her annual sister’s
get together, where there
were plenty of late nights,
story-telling and gam-
bling. She was a member
of the Little Flower
Catholic Church and a
Christian Mother.
She is survived by son
