Anne Degenstein, 94, of Salem, South Dakota passed away on May 6, 2020 at Avantara Nursing Home in Salem.

Anne Kremer was born in Karlsruhe, ND on August 25, 1925 to Stephen and Elizabeth (Wentz) Kremer. She grew up working on the family farm. She married Leonard Degenstein on July 26, 1943 at Karlsruhe. Anne worked hard and raised her family while Leonard worked for the railroad in North Dakota. She moved to South Dakota in 2006. Anne was a devoted Catholic.

She is survived by: her children, Richard (Maureen) Degenstein of Corvallis, OR, Ernest (Patti) Degenstein of NJ; Joyce (Butch) Meyer of Salem, SD and Bonita (David) Smith of Pasadena, MD; a daughter-in-law, Alane Degenstein of West Fargo, ND; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Julia Lenertz of Minneapolis, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter, Carol (William) Ethridge, son Duane, infant daughter, Bernadette, granddaughter, Mary, one great-grandchild, three great-great grandchildren, and siblings, Fred, Tony, Joe, Pete, Phillip, George, Christine and Jack. www.kinzleyfh.com

A private family funeral mass was held on Tuesday, May 12 at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salem. The service was live streamed and a link was posted on Anne’s obituary at www.kinzleyfh.com at the time of the service. Burial took place on Friday, May 15th, 11:00 am at St. Margaret-Holy Cross Cemetery in Drake, North Dakota.
