Audrey Lavaughn (Bock) Harmel

Audrey Lavaughn (Bock) Harmel, the daughter of Hubert and Bernice (Vicha) Bock was born on September 20, 1937 in Minot, North Dakota. She passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2020 at Towner
County Living Center in Cando, North Dakota, at the age of 82 years. Audrey grew up in York, North Dakota and graduated from Leeds high School. Growing up, she would spend summers in Foxholm, North Dakota with her uncle, John Vicha and had numerous adventures with her best friend, Carol Runcorn. Shortly after graduating high school, she met Robert Harmel and they were united in marriage on November 22, 1956 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Knox, North Dakota. The couple went on to build a homestead near Nanson, North Dakota, where they ranched, farmed and raised their family. Audrey raised chickens and grew a huge garden, which she had her children pick the weeds. To this day, none of her kids like peas or at least if they still have the shells on them! She also worked at the Nanson
General Store, sold Watkins products, worked at the Lite Bite in Rolette and York Cafe for her friend, Marie Harmel.
She was a member of the Rolette American Legion Auxiliary, where she loved to argue with Gordy Boucher, arguing was her favorite passion . . . just bring out the Britannica Encyclopedias. She also
enjoyed the sounds of frogs, birds and treasured the music of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. Audrey is survived by her children, Theresa Harmel, Towner County Living Center in Cando, Stephen of Rolette, Bobbi Jo Harmel (Dave Beck) of Knox and Dawn (Blaine) Thingvold of Rolette; grandchildren, Jason Harmel (Connie Duchscherer) of Rugby, Matthew Harmel (Lisa Kinsey) of Rugby, Tyler Harmel of Rugby, Brandon Duckwitz of Mandan, Kodi Harmel of Rolette and Michael Rogstad of Bismarck; six great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Vallimont of Pensacola, Florida; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband (January 27, 2019); a granddaughter, Kristy Harmel and her parents.
Graveside services will be held at North Ox Creek Cemetery, rural Rolette at a later date due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 virus. Date and time of future services to be announced.
