Valentine Wentz
June 2, 1927 – Mar. 6, 2020
Valentine Wentz was born June 2nd, 1927 to Matthias and Mary (Schell) Wentz on the family farm in Rosedale Township, Pierce County, North Dakota with his grandma serving as the midwife. He grew up there with Anton, his brother, and his sisters, Loretta and Jane and received his education in a country school near his home. Following his schooling, Valentine helped his father with their farming operation.
He met Marlene (Schmidt) at a barn dance in 1952. They were married on June 7th, 1954, in Rugby. The couple purchased his former schoolhouse and they made it into a home for their family. They had
9 children, Patrick, Perry, Steve, Valerie, Jerry, Ronald, Barbara, Raymond, and Peggy. Their children blessed them with 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. His wife and family were his world! When he wasn’t farming, haying, or taking care of his cattle, Valentine enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and woodworking. He had the unique ability to be able to fix just about anything and passed that trait on to
his family. He appreciated the little things in life. He was a one-of-a kind man who brought light and laughter to those he met and knew. He was a good man who followed his Catholic faith and morals every day. He was a lifetime farmer, member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
