Victor Joseph Scherr

Victor Joseph Scherr, the son of Peter and Frances (Streifel) Scherr was born April 25, 1938 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby, North Dakota. He died at the age of 81 years on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Trinity Medical Center, Minot, North Dakota due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Victor was raised in the home of his parents in southern Pierce County. He received his schooling in Rosedale and Girard Townships through the eighth grade. In 1961, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served two years in Germany as a medic. During that time, he earned his GED to complete his education. Victor returned to the family farm near Orrin where he worked with his parents and area farmers.

On July 17, 1971 he married the love of his life, Delilah Ganje at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Velva. The couple made their home on the family farm where they raised two sons and continued to farm and ranch.

Victor enjoyed farming and ranching, especially baling hay and checking on the crops or the cattle. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. He also loved to play cards, assemble jigsaw puzzles, sudoku and other brain teasers. He was a long time and faithful member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Balta. He served on the parish council and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He was active on the Balta school board for 12 years in addition to other local committees and various boards.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Delilah; sons, Vincent (Becky) and Virgil (Sandy) both of Orrin; 6 grandchildren, Kylie (Jeffrey) Weber, Jace, Kelcey and Dylan Scherr; Taylor Romer and Morgan Scherr; great grandson, Aksel Weber; sisters, Helen Niess and Audrey Williams both of Minot; brothers, Ted (Mary) of Fargo and Don (Edie) of Bismarck; sisters-in-law Marcella Scherr and Gloria Scherr both of Minot; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Mary Duchscherer; brothers Tony and Kenneth; brothers-in-law, Bennie Duchscherer, Edward Niess and Ron Williams; and a niece, Brenda.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 18th at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Balta with spring burial in the church cemetery with Military Honors. Father Frank Miller, Celebrant.
