Alvin Berndt Sr., 87 of Rugby, ND peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND. He was born May 6, 1933 in Rugby, ND to Fred and Alma
(Thomssen). Alvin graduated from Towner High School in 1951. He was drafted into the army in May of 1953 through 1955, where he was proud to be chosen to attend sniper school. Alvin and Erma (Rosencrans) were united in marriage on December 23, 1953.
Alvin believed that life is better on the ranch. With a team of horses, small herd of cattle and his family by his side; Alvin moved to a small homestead in southern McHenry County on May 8th, 1965. Through hard work and determination, Alvin built his life-long dream which is now known as The Berndt Ranch. He was kind, compassionate and lived life with a huge heart. Alvin was known for long days in the hayfield on his JD 4020 and Kosh mower and fixing endless miles of fence. His love for his 7 children, 20 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren was endless.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years; Erma (Rosencrans); three sons, Alvin (Lori) Berndt Jr. of Rugby, ND, Alan Berndt of Union Star, MO and Frederick (Tara) Berndt of Balta, ND; three daughters; Pearl Weber of Nunn, CO, Lois (Joel) Fillion of Clarksdale, MO and Stacy Friestad of Rugby, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Fred, brothers, Clarence, Bernie and Duane; Sister, Laura and his son Alfred.
Alvin was a member of the Church of God (Seventh Day).
A Celebration of Life will honor Alvin in May,2020.
