Janice Marie Fritel

Janice Marie Fritel, 71, of Devils Lake, ND passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with burial St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

Janice, daughter of Arne and Lorraine (Smith) Sandvik was born July 30, 1948 in Sharon, ND. She attended country school in Griggs County and then graduated from Coopers-town High School in 1966.

Janice was united in marriage to the love of her life, Frank Fritel, on October 7, 1967, at St. George Catholic Church in Cooperstown, ND. The two met and worked together at the H.E. Everson store in town where Janice was Frank’s bookkeeper. They began their family and relocated to Devils Lake, ND in 1971 where they opened another branch of the HE Everson Company. Janice was involved in the Jaycees

years ago, and traveled with Frank on Everson trips. She loved quilting and crocheting dish cloths and towels, which she generously gifted to family and friends. She adored time with her grandchildren, thrift store shopping, road trips with her sisters, and weekends at the lake. She was always game for a bonfire. Her breakfast club kept her laughing every Thursday morning. Janice fought leukemia like a champ,

and after battling it for two years she received a “clean bill of health” in the summer of 2017.

Janice is survived by her husband of 52 years, Frank, daughter Lynda Slininger of Dilworth, MN, daughter Andrea (John) Fritel- Larson of Fargo, ND, son Bruce (Chrystal) Fritel of Devils Lake, ND, daughter Lori

(Jarrod) Stubbe of Devils Lake, ND; grandchildren Bellamy and Violet Slininger, Chase Larson, Hallie, Cabryn and Easton Fritel, and Quenten and Malcolm Stubbe; sisters, Linda (Magnus) Haaland, Cooperstown, ND, Lois (Rodney) Wiseman, Cooperstown, ND, Carol Sandvik, Fairmont, MN; brothers Allan Sandvik, West Fargo, ND, Neil (Vicki) Sandvik, Park City, KS, Kenny (Randi) Sandvik, Cooperstown, ND; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her in-laws; Joe (Naomi) Fritel, Rugby, ND, Bea Bachmeier, Casselton, ND, Will (Lorraine) Fritel, Rolette, ND, Patricia Fritel, West Fargo, ND, Debbie Fritel, Coop-

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Diana Haaland and Wayne Sandvik; mother and father in-law, Rudolph and Catherine Fritel; in-laws, Arne Haaland, Vince Bachmeier, Edward Fritel, Ernie Fritel, and Richard Heilman, as well as nephews Craig Sandvik and Tim Fritel.
