Marie Selensky, 83, Rugby, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota. She was born on May 20, 1936 to August and Theresa (Adam) Welk in Orrin, North Dakota.
Marie was raised in Orrin until she was a preschooler and her family moved to Rugby where she attended Little Flower School and Rugby High School. On November 24, 1953, she was united in marriage to John Selensky and they made their home on a farm northeast of Rugby. They raised small grains, cattle, a big garden and most importantly, seven children. Marie was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She created a home filled with love and laughter. She graciously hosted many family gatherings and reunions. In addition to working on the farm, Marie held several other jobs, mostly in the restaurant industry. She served many years as a youth leader in Farmers Union and she was active in the Little Flower Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers and the Catholic Daughters of America. She had a sweet and kind personality that never wavered. She was always pleasant and funny, singing, dancing and enjoying her life which brought joy to those around her. She will be deeply missed by many.
Grateful to have shared her life are her children, Leon of Sidney, MT, Leonard (Patty) of Thief River Falls, MN, Lydell of Rugby, Sandra (Randall) Meidinger of Linton, ND, Sheila (Randy) Edin of Staples, MN, Sheryl (Mike) Sattler of Lakeville, MN and Suzette (Scott) Hall of Lakeville, MN; 19 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.
Her sisters, Agnes (John) Heilman of Rugby and Lorraine Jelsing of Bismarck; brothers, Balzer Welk of Rugby, Richard (Kathy) Welk of Killdeer and Chuck (Bobbi) Welk of Mandan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rose Selensky, Alice Selensky, Ann Selensky, Ed (Elaine) Selensky and James (Bernice) Selensky; numerous nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John (2006); daughter-in-law, Kris Selensky; granddaughter, Samantha Edin; her brother, Nick Welk; three infant sisters; several brothers and sisters-in-law and her parents.
Mass of Christian burial was held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28 at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial in the church cemetery. Father Franklin Miller, Celebrant
