Deresa K. “Terri” (Burgard) Levitt
Nov. 16, 1927 – Sept. 18, 2019
Deresa K. “Terri” (Burgard) Levitt, the daughter of Frank and Ottilia (Hager) Burgard was born in the home of her parents on November 16, 1927 in Girard Township, Pierce County, North Dakota. She died at the age of 91 years on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at her home in Rugby, North Dakota.
Deresa was raised in the farm home of her parents in Girard Township (rural Orrin) and received her education in the Girard Lake Township country school. She moved with her parents to Rugby in 1948 and was employed at the Good Samaritan Hospital as a CNA for five years. A very determined woman, Deresa moved to Grand Forks and then to Santa Monica, California where she worked at hospitals as a CNA. On February 14, 1971, she married Howard Levitt, DDS in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple made their home in Santa Monica where she became a dental assistant for Howard’s father, Dr. Samuel Levitt and a stepmother to Howards two sons, Michael and David. Following Dr. Samuel’s retirement, Dr. Howard took over the dentistry practice, they became a husband and wife dental team. Unfortunately, they later ended their marriage and Deresa “Terri” moved back home to Rugby to be near family. She was a member of the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby where she cooked for the priests for seven years and did
many, many hours of volunteer work at the hospital. As a young girl she loved horseback riding and listening to shows on the radio with her dad and enjoyed movies, magazine and loved children. A favorite pastime was golf.
Deresa “Terri” is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Leonard) Goetz of Rugby; sisters-in-law, Barbara Burgard and Theresa Burgard, both of Rugby; many nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Anton, Frank Jr., Michael, Casper, Eusabius, Emil, and Raymond; sisters, Barbara Wolf, Pauline Eberle, Marion True and Julie Axtman and her parents.
