Emil Donavon “Donny” “Tramp” Vetsch

Emil Donavon “Donny” “Tramp” Vetsch, 68, Balta, died in an accident that occurred near Esmond, North Dakota on Saturday, September 7, 2019. Donny was born in Rugby on July 23, 1951 to Emil Charles and Florence Alice Massine Vetsch. He was raised on a farm near Balta. He attended Notre Dame Academy in Willow City and graduated from Balta High School in 1969. Donny continued his education at North
Dakota State School of Forestry in Bottineau and Devils Lake Junior College. Shortly after college he joined the United States Army and served in Korea for over a year. He was discharged as a Specialist 4 after being awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary (Korea) Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Marksmanship Badge.
After Donny returned from Korea, he obtained Certification as a mechanic from the Advance Schools in Chicago. During his life he worked in steel construction, mechanics, small engine repair and helping area
farmers. He was a man of many talents and trades. His greatest talent was being able to fix anything with an engine. Donny was a gentle soul with a huge heart and wonderful laugh. He will be remembered as always there to offer a hand to get a job done. As a proud veteran he found time to help raise a niece and Kenny for several years. He loved to “visit” where ever he was, pick wild berries, fishing and watching the sun set. He found his greatest peace when riding motorcycle. He would help anyone, anytime and would forgo his own needs at times to help others.
He is survived by his daughter, Jamie Vetsch and Kyle Lundin Bismarck, and his special friend, Sandy Miller. He leaves one grandson, Noah Lundin and one sister Bonnie (Clark) Maier Bismarck and a brother, Randall Vetsch Bismarck. He also leaves several cousins and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Memorial services were held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Balta on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. Military honors were provided by the Clarence Larson Post #23 American Legion and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Detail. Burial followed at Mt. Carmel Cemetery – Balta.
