Kristine Lynn Evenson

May 19, 1953 – August 19, 2019

Kristine Lynn Evenson, 66, died at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby on August 19, 2019, after a four year battle with cancer.

Kristine was born in Rugby on May 19, 1953 to Lyla and Kenneth Evenson. She graduated from Rugby High School in 1971 and graduated from Trinity Hospital School of Nursing in Minot in June 1975. Kristine was a passionate and devoted nurse, and she loved all her residents while working in geriatrics. She worked in several nursing homes including over 20 combined years at the Good Samaritan Hospital

Association in Rugby.

Kristine gave birth to her first child, Sarah. After marrying Bryce Servold, she was blessed with a son, Jesse. Kristine lived and worked in Colorado before returning to North Dakota. She met and married her second husband, Gary Degenstein. They had three children together, Amanda, Cyrus, and James.

Kristine was extremely involved with babysitting and everyday activities with her grandchildren. Grandma “Kiss” could brighten any day, and the kids looked forward to every visit. Even during the most painful struggles in her fight with cancer, she found an inner strength to make time for her beloved grandchildren and children. Kristine loved all animals and took pride in feeding the birds. She provided a loving home to many stray cats and dogs throughout the years.

Kristine is survived by her mother, Lyla of Rugby; children, Sarah Evenson of Minot; Jesse (Samantha) Servold of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Amanda (Jay) Loughman of Rugby; James Degenstein of Rugby; and grandchildren, Christina Evenson of Minot; Brittany, Christian, Emma, and Hayley Loughman of Rugby; Valera Ser-vold of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Xander Degenstein of Rugby. She is preceded in death by her father, Kenneth; sister, Vicky; infant son, Cyrus, and her grandparents.

Memorial services will be held on August 31, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Rugby with burial in Persilla Watts Cemetery Rugby to follow. Rev. Nathan Steen will officiate and Dianne Montonye will be the pianist. Kristine’s son, James , will carry the urn and her grandchildren will be honorary urn bearers. Friends may call at the church after 10 AM on Saturday.
