Ryer Ingolf Thompson

Ryer Ingolf Thompson, 81, Rugby died at Trinity Hospital in Minot on Monday, December 17, 2018. Ryer was born on the family farm near Kintyre, North Dakota to

Magnus and Hannah (Svanes) Thompson. He worked on the family farm and other farmers in the area. Most of his life he kept the country roads in good shape by operating the blade in Kidder and Pierce Counties. He retired in 2009. Ryer, in his appreciation for young people, worked as the caretaker and open gym supervisor at the Rugby Armory while working for the City of Rugby until the time of his death. For many years he was the “person in charge” at the High Performance Car Wash in Rugby. On October 6, 1972 he married Darlene Delores Steinwand in Steele, North Dakota.

Most of all, Rugby residents and his many friends, will remember him driving his pickup around town and the frequent stops at every cafe for coffee and visiting with anyone who was there on a daily basis. He enjoyed bowling for many years, following the local sports teams and professional sports teams. He even worked at some

bowling alleys to be near his favorite sport. In addition he liked to attend local rodeos. When his grandchildren arrived it was the highlight of his day.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene and their children, Ryan – Rugby and Cindy and her husband Josh Martin Sarles, North Dakota. His grandchildren, Bryce and

Lexi Martin will miss their grandfather very much. He also leaves a brother, Harold (Delores) Thompson – Kintyre and a sister, Hazel Sinness Bismarck and many

nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Harry, George, Thomas, Norman, and Charley and a sister, Shirley Merkel and his parents.

Funeral services were held on Friday, December 21, 2018 at First Lutheran Church in Rugby at 1:00 P.M. Rev. Sharon Baker and Rev.
