Mae Carol Niewoehner

Mae Carol Niewoehner, 85, Upham, died on December 9, 2018 at Trinity Hospital in Minot. Mae was born in Devils Lake, North Dakota on April 22, 1933, the daughter of Wesley Dwight and Helga Louise (Rasmussen) Parker. She grew up on the Sully’s Hill National Game Preserve at Fort Totten, where her father was the game warden and refuge manager. She graduated from Devils Lake High School . She attained two Bachelor’s Degrees from Minot State Teachers College. Mae taught school in Hammond, Indiana, Rugby, and Underwood, North Dakota and also practiced her profession as a speech therapist. Mae met Henry Weyburn Niewoehner at Minot State. They were married on July 6, 1957 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minot. In 1960 she and her husband began the Niewoehner Funeral Home in Rolla, where she

worked hand in hand with him in the funeral home and ambulance service. In 2002, after 42 years, they retired and eventually moved to the family ranch west of Up-

ham.

During their retirement years they were both involved in the operation of the miniature train at Roosevelt Park in Minot, where she was the conductor and Weyburn the engineer. She was Secretary to the Board of Directors of the Minot Railroad Museum, and was involved in many activities of the Minot Golden K Kiwanis Club, where

Weyburn is a member. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in rural Upham and the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame. Mae served as a council member of the Rolla City Council.

She is survived by her husband, H. Weyburn – Upham, son, H. Mark W. Niewoehner Chicago, Illinois and daughter Heather L. Niewoehner Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. She also leaves grandchildren, Blair Niewoehner – St. Louis , Missouri, Dr. Angelina Franklin and her son, Sullivan Pender – Apex, North Carolina, and Greg

Marcil – Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In addition she leaves a brother, John Parker – Faribault, Minnesota and a sister Alice McIntosh, – Longmont, Colorado and eight nieces and nephews. She also leaves a brother-in-law Dale and his wife Marilyn Niewoehner – Rugby. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Strecker and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Daryl Rothchild will officiate and Dr. Angelina Franklin, Jason Hall, James Huston, John Halone, Gene Kersten, Gordon Krech, Pete Marsh, Golden Melland, Gary Ochsner, Richard Sabol, Verdean Torno, and Kenneth Worral will serve as casket bearers and Micah Scott, Dave & Virginia Stern, and the congregation will provide music. Cheryl Niewoehner will be the organist.

Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 AM until the time of the service.
