Frances (Brossart) Volk

Frances (Brossart) Volk, daughter of John and Cecelia (Schneider) Brossart was born on August 1, 1921 in the rural Berwick, North Dakota home of her parents. She

went home to the Lord on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Frances was raised on the family farm and received her education at a country school near her home. On November 25, 1940, Frances was united in marriage to Kasmer L. Volk at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby. When first married, they lived on a farm south of Berwick near St Anselm’s Fulda Church, later moved to a more permanent farm south of Berwick, and west of the church. In 1963, the couple and family moved to Towner, North Dakota. Frances was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, sister and employee whose purpose in life was to serve others.

Frances worked very hard to help support her family, yet always found time to remember family and friends through her frequent visits and cards. She was a very kind, loving and a faithful woman; yet very determined in her beliefs and disciplines. You always knew where and what Frances stood for, you didn’t need to ask her twice! She provided excellent care giving services to many in need throughout her life. Over a period of 60 years she, farmed, gardened, cooked and owned a res-

taurant, drove the school bus, managed a parts shop and did its bookkeeping and drove a semi hauling grain and cheese. She held an election judge position for many years on the McHenry County Election Board.

Frances enjoyed being with her family and friends, she especially en-joyed eating watermelon, blueberries and chicken drummies, loved her flower garden, and was

able to relax by singing, playing bingo and an occasional trip to the Casino… and she was very good at it too! She was a member of the Christian Mothers at St. Anselm’s Catholic Church, Fulda and St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Towner; and a State and Local officer in the Catholic Order of Foresters with the Fulda and Towner parishes. Kasmer died December 23, 2005.

Volk, Surrey; Robert M. Volk; Killeen, Texas; George K. (Nancy) Volk, Bismarck; Beverly (John) Abel-Spinck, Phoenix, Arizona; Douglas L. (Glori Ann) Volk, Forest Lake, Minnesota; and Debra (Jay) Thorson, Surrey ND. Other survivors include 29 grandchildren including, Jeffrey, Jerry, Rick, Rob and Dawn Volk, and step grandchild Melisa Locken; LeRoy Volk, Sheryl Volk and DeNae Volk; Dennis, Warren, David and James Volk and Anita Johnson; Randy and Steven Berg,; Chad Volk, Amy Schmidt and Lori Gilberg; Rob, Keith and Justin Volk; Tim, Eric and Sarah Volk; Sandy Abel-Akin and Mark Abel; Derek, Christopher and Jenny Thorson; 58 great

grandchildren; 3 great-great children; sisters, Cecelia Maier, Rugby and Rose Hornstein, Bismarck; a brother, Leo Brossart, Roosevelt Dam, Arizona; two sisters-in-law; Julia Brossart and Kathryn Brossart of Grand Forks; two Godson’s, Leonard Volk, Fargo and Fred Schell, Towner; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; sons, Albert P. Volk and John in infancy; grandson, Mario Volk; sons-in-law, Roger Berg and Kurt Abel; daughter-in-law, Jean (Neagle) Volk; brothers and sisters-in-law: John (Rosie), Frank, Benedict (Kathryn); Paul (Kathryn), Pius, Joe (Clara), Ignatius “Ned” Brossart and Marlys, Mrs. Leo Brossart; sisters, Sr. Mary Ann Brossart and Agatha Mattern; brothers-in-law Bill Maier, Pius Hornstein and Pete Mattern.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday October 6th. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Towner with burial in the church cemetery. Fr. Michael Schommer, Cele-brant
