Pius “David” Wangler, the son of Pius and Kathryn (Kurtz) Wangler was born on December 5, 1952 in Rugby, North Dakota. He died at the age of 65 years on Tuesday,
September 11, 2018 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.
David was born with down’s syndrome and lived with his parents at the family farm in Tuscarora Township, Pierce County and was able to do some schooling in Rugby
and helped his dad at times on the farm. When he was of age, David moved to the Minot Vocational Workshop, where he received additional training. When he finished with the workshop training, he moved to a group home in Fargo. David did not like the group home, so Pius brought him back to the farm to be with his parents and other family. In 1998, he needed more care than could be provided at home, he then made his home at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, living here until his sudden death on Tuesday.
He is survived by his siblings, Annette (Emery) Mears, Rolla; Patricia Opstad, Bloomington, Minnesota; Judith Carr, Morris, Minnesota; Jackie (Dan) Jacobson, Arnold,
Maryland; Sharon (Galen) Vaa, Moorhead, Minnesota; Janelle (Alfred “Al” Jacobson and Dale (Kris) Wangler, all of Rugby; step-brother, Roderick (Terri) Schmidt, Halstad, Minnesota; many nieces, nephew, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Madeline Schmidt Wangler, and two brothers-in-law, Byron Opstad and Loren Carr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 15 at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial in the St. Anselm’s Catholic
Cemetery, Fulda. Father Tom Graner, Celebrant, Father Thai Arul, Concelebrant and Deacon Emery Mears.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday with a Rosary and wake service beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby and visitation will contin-
ue Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. There will be no reviewal in the church.
