Marion J. (Anderson) Halvorson

June 1, 1931-August 14, 2018

Marion J. (Anderson) Halvorson was born June 1, 1931 in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Rugby to Joseph M. and Minnie (Haugen) Anderson. She died at the age of 87

years on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake where she has made her home for the past couple of years.

She was raised on the Anderson Family homestead in Walsh Township, Pierce County where she attended a rural school for her elementary years and graduated from Rugby High School, the class of 1949. Marion completed her education at Minot State College earning her teaching certificate for rural schools. Following her college, she taught at a nearby rural school until her marriage. On September 7, 1952, she was united in marriage to Raymond Halvorson at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby. The couple first made their home on the campus of NDSU until Raymond’s graduation in 1953. They then returned to the Halvorson Family farm where they lived for 56 years, raised their family, farmed and ranched.

Marion was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church and its WELCA, having held many offices over the years. She also enjoyed memberships in the North Dakota

Polled Hereford Association and its auxiliary and a local homemakers club, had a great love for gardening and grew some of the best flower gardens around. Special times where spent with her family and grandchildren. Raymond died September 5, 2009 and Marion remained on the farm for two years before purchasing a home in Rugby. With health concerns happening, she moved into the Haaland Estates and later to the memory care component of Heartland Care Center.

Marion is survived by her children, Margo (Brian) Lind of Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin and Rodney (Kate) of Rugby; four grandchildren, Kelsey Halvorson, Jared and Meggan Lind and Brandon Sunart; a brother, Ralph (JoAnn) Anderson of Rugby; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, Maynard Anderson; and her parents.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 18th at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby with burial in the Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby.
