March 18, 1932-Aug. 12, 2018
Darlene Borth, 86, Rugby died on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby. Darlene was born on March 18, 1932 in Medina, North
Dakota to John and Lydia Wiest Hust. She was raised in the Medina area and graduated from Medina High School in 1950. As a young girl she worked in the Borth General Store until she married Harold Elmer Borth on March 30, 1952. They lived in Medina where they were in partnership with John Speidel for 27 years at the
Medina and Carrington department stores. In 1982 they moved to Rugby where they continued to operate hardware and department stores in Rugby, Devils Lake, Carrington, and Medina. She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby.
Darlene’s life can be described as “unconditional giving.” She was an incredible mother and grandmother. Her love truly was her family. She was always ready for the next adventure. Whether to Medora or Lake Metigoshe, she took her grandkids with her everywhere. Her and her mother never missed one of the grandkids’ events, including almost 10 years of high school basketball games. Her other infamous love was Elvis. You could always find Darlene listening to Elvis songs and wearing her King of Rock bling. Everyone’s life who was touched by her knows the feeling she gave – blessings and calm. Such a gracious woman. May we all live with the faith that she lived, knowing that we will hug again.
She is survived by her two daughters, RoJean and her husband Terry Wentz and DyVonne and her husband George Zinck all of Rugby. Four grandchildren will miss her very much – Justin and his wife Sheila Wentz, Jeremy Wentz, Kayla and her husband Ben Brase, and Lee and his wife Christy Zinck. In addition she leaves 7 great-grandchildren – Joshua and Chloe Wentz, Lydia and Liam Brase, and Tucker, Brynlee, and Wyatt Zinck.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold on June 28, 1991 and her parents.
Funeral services were held on Harold’s birthday, Friday, August 17, 2018 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Barbara Haugerud and Rev. William Reck officiating. Rev. Philip Leer and Barbara Lee provided music for the service. Jeremy & Justin Wentz, Lee Zinck, Ben Brase, Dallas & Del Speidel, Loren Wiest, Delmer Sukut, and Lonny Reuer served as casket bearers. Burial followed the service at Persilla Watts Cemetery in Rugby.
Visitation was held at the Niewoehner Funeral Home on Thursday, August 16th from 4-7 PM and an hour before the service at the church on Friday.
